Scotland- Inverness

The scenery once you get into the Highlands is beautiful.  It goes back and forth from lush and green to drier and brown, but still beautiful.

Sometimes we had to stop and do a little roadside exploring.

A few days of vacation can sure be exhausting.

And we saw this van on the way.  Made us laugh!  Must be some really yummy pies!

The morning of day four brought us to Cawdor Castle.

It was a fun castle to explore.

The dungeon even had a tree growing through it.

The castle is known for it's gardens and they did not disappoint.

We enjoyed walking through and finding all sorts of neat things!

On the way out we found a highland cow!

Our afternoon was spent at Fort George, which was built to pacify the Highlands after the Jacobite rising in the 1700s.  It is still currently used as an army garrison.

The chapel is home to the only bagpipe playing Angel.

And what a view!

We spent day five on Loch Ness searching for Nessie.  I'm pretty certain that we saw either her head or tail!

Part of our tour consisted of Urquhart Castle.  The castle was partially destroyed to prevent the Jacobites from taking it over.

Such a cool experience to walk through a castle that has been blown up.

I saw this as we were leaving Loch Ness and thought it was neat.

We had a great time in Inverness, but then it was time to move on to the next adventure.
