Well, Haley and I have successfully made our first trip back to Texas. Zach had to work, so he was left in Key West with a to-do list :)
Haley and I left last week and flew out to Houston. This was her very first time in an airplane so I was a little nervous wondering how she would do. Once we made it onto our second scheduled flight (the first was cancelled with no notice), we found out. It was a little rough at first, but eventually Haley fell asleep for about half of the flight. The second one was ok too, but she had a little more room to play. We finally made it to Houston to see Grandpa Thompson (my dad), Tante (Norwegian for Great-Aunt- in case you were wondering), and Uncle Lincoln.
The weather was pretty rainy the first few days, but we still made the most of them. Our first day was full of shopping!! Target, Babies-R-Us, and even What-A-Burger! Ok, the last one isn't shopping, but it was yummy! We took care of all the shopping we can't do here in Key West. Got Haley enough clothes to last until early summer and some good walking shoes (since she's doing that now). I was even able to find some maternity clothes. It was all very productive. The next day we went to the Houston Children's Museum. Talk about loads of fun!! Haley was able to play with all sorts of great toys. I think we all had just about as much fun as she did. If we lived in Houston, we would be there all the time.
Saturday I left Haley with Grandpa and Tante and headed out to Dallas for a friend's wedding. It was so wonderful getting to see all my friends from school and not have to worry about being a mommy. Not that I don't love being a mommy, but sometimes it's nice to have a little break. It was a beautiful wedding and I am so glad to have had the opportunity to have been there. Sunday I drove back with another friend and we had such a great time just talking about life on the way back. I miss times like that.
On Monday I made another get away and headed to San Antonio. I was able to have dinner with a few wonderful friends and catch up with them. It was so great. I spent the night at an old co-worker and fabulous mommy friend's place that night. We talked mommy talk and I realized that I miss times like that too. The next day I got to go by my old office and see my co-workers. It was so much fun getting to see them and catch up on all the dysfunction that goes on there.
I eventually made it back to Houston to enjoy our last few days in Texas. We cruised the mall and ate Vietnamese food one day and went to the zoo on our last. We were very fortunate that the weather cleared up and it was a perfect day for the zoo. Haley loved getting to see all the animals. We even went to a petting zoo and rode on the carousel.
Finally it was time to come back to the real world. We made it back to Key West with a lot of wonderful memories of our time in Texas. The trip seemed all too short, but we had loads of fun doing things and seeing family and friends. I miss everyone already and am looking forward to our next trip out.
