A Visitor

This past week we got a little visitor. An iguana.

From the front of the porch

From the screen side

Haley and I came home from her swimming lesson to find an iguana stuck on our front porch. On our front porch there is a decorative wall with holes and a screen right behind it. Apparently, our little visitor thought he could run right through the hole and make it out the other side. Boy was he wrong. So when Haley and I got home, he scurried up to the top of the screen and we ran inside.

I'm not really afraid of an iguana, it's just that we've seen how fast they move and I know they can bite. Plus, they are just ugly. Needless to say, we didn't go outside the rest of the afternoon. I was a little nervous that if we did go out, our visitor would have gotten unstuck and jumped out at us and then run away. I was ok with the running away part, just not the jumping out at us.

After a few hours and no movement from the iguana, I called the Keys SPCA to come and pick him up. A very friendly lady showed up, put on her gloves, reached in, and grabbed the guy. She told me she was going to have to release him and I told her as long as it was a little farther away.

You may be thinking, an iguana? Really? In Key West? Yes. Apparently they love it here this time of year and we've seen lots of them. Some are huge and others a little smaller. We were lucky in that this guy was on the smaller side. And they also love the tree that we have in the front yard. Lucky, lucky us.
